Work Plays
For Special Needs Students
Work Plays was written by a rehabilitation counselor who works with young people with little work experience, many with learning disabilities and emotional problems. The author developed Work Plays after realizing that traditional methods were not working. Work Plays is a series of work dramas, each focusing on a particular work trait. This concept allows the student to experience the conflict that can arise in the workplace. As a further challenge, the actors and audience must create their own endings. Participants are given the freedom to choose solutions, try on different roles or reverse roles. Students learn to look at conflict from different points of view. Conflict resolution skills are enhanced. Work skills covered include:
- Attendance
- Quantity of Work
- Supervisor Relations
- Grooming & Dressing
- Maintenance of Work Area
- Work Rules and Regulations
Work Plays is a fun, interactive, nontraditional method of teaching all the necessary employability skills without lecturing. It includes lesson plans, pre- and post-tests, questions for discussion and three or four scenes covering each work skill.
